Quotes of Virginia Woolf: My top 3 quotes.

 My favorites three quotation…..

(1)   "They can because they think they can."

In this quote tells about so many things, but say about self-confidence is necessary in your life. Before doing determination and self confidence is necessary.

(2)   "Never pretend that the things you haven't got are not worth having."

We pretend the that and blame things that this is not important. But Woolf  believes that we shouldn’t say that I don’t like things which I
haven’t.

(3) "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction."

A room of her own means total freedom & enough money, free to use the way she want. In this quote talk about the Victorian woman mindset they all are read secretly example -shows hard ship woman in society it demands freedom from patriarchy,

Threats to Creativity and Freedom of Expression

This is controversial issue that whether Rajnikant should play role of Aurangzeb or not. And second is sensitive issue because of religion. But i strongly believe that art and artist should be free from that. There should be no limit on artist on the name of religion. because after all art survives. History has proved that religious leaders were wrong. Their imposed banned were misleading. Baning will never bring good thing in society. Art is beautiful medium to connect people. What is wrong in just playing role of the person?. It shouldnt happen.

It is not good idea to believe  that Aurangzeb was anti hindu, so one can not play role of him. History may be imperfect in portraying him completely wrong way. So there is nothing wrong in playing role .

Ancient V/S Modern

This is a long debated question that which is best. But i think that both are interdependent. Both are true to their time. Ancient are role model for modern writer that how to write. on the other hand it is difficult to follow other. This kills individuality by following other. Because of Ancient modern writer have many advantages also. Because they have written nearly about all the subjects. Ancient are great because they have pass the exam of time. After many years they are still alive because of their works. on the other hand modern are also experimenting and creating something new which was not done by writers of past. So both are important. Today's modern will be ancient  in time to come and today's ancient were once modern.

How Literature shaped me

I am studying literature since five years. It  has played very important role in my life. I have learn so many things from books. I like reading plays & novels. It gives me aesthetic delight, pleasure.

But it is not only for entertainment. Books teaches us so many things. It gives better perspective to understand the society in far better way.

In the beginning of B.A. i was struggling with books to understand it. But books are trully great treasure to open up & absorb the invaluable thing it has. Ghasiram Kotwal, The Bluest Eye, Far From Madding crowd, Name Sake are some of my favourite books, which i enjoyed reading as well studying.

Texts of M.A.  like Hamlet, Faustus, Paradise Lost, To the Lighthouse,Sense and Sensibility, Tom Jones, Middlemarch, Oliver Twist, Waiting for Godot, The Birthday Party,  Gullivers Travels etc covers wide range of subjects like Love, hatred, betrayal, revenge, marriage, Existentialism, power and politics, criticism on downsides of humanbeings, poverty, issue of money and heritage, patriarchy, place of women in society, good versus evil and so many other things.

Namesake gave me vision to understand what is Diasporic sensibilities. Through The Bluest eye i can visualise suffering of Black people and entire issue of Racism.

ON@TCC, The White Tiger, The Da vinci code and The Sense of an Ending kind of modern texts i enjoyed more. Because whatever is narrated in books, that i can see happening in and around us. Whether its religious controversy or Globalization, changing morality or newer problems. I can read and understand society in better way.

After studying various characters, i have got ability to understand human nature in better way. Though human nature in unpredictable, i can understand other's mentality & behaviour.

Books are the best source to develop your self this is what now i believe.

The Sense of an Ending

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes an English novelist won 2011 Man Booker Prize. This is Eleventh novel of writer. This novel was released on 4th August 2011in the United Kingdom. This novel is based on memory of writer (narrator). That how narrator recalls his past (memory) and that create a sequence of accident and that makes a twist in the story. Thus the novel based on Memory of narrator.

Ø What is the meaning of phrase ‘Blood Money’ in Veronica’s reply email?

Julian Barnes here justifies the Universal Truth that “One cannot know what he does not know” – with the reference of Tony Webster that he never understand the words of Veronica, When Tony asked Veronica about the Money at that time she replied with very tragic answer “Blood Money”.  When Tony asked about other things at that time Veronica also replied with unaccepted answer: -

"You still don’t get it. You never did, and you never will. So stop even trying”.

So here it can be interpreted that why does Veronica say ‘Blood Money’? Because there are two persons who are responsible for Adrian’s suicide they are Sarah and Tony Webster according to Veronica. Due to Sarah Adrian committed suicide as he makes her pregnant and another reason can also be given is that Veronica thinks that Tony Webster is responsible as he writes letter to Adrian. So the letter causes damage. Therefore Veronica thinks that Tony Webster is responsible for the suicide of Adrian. Hence we may say that she calls that money as ‘Blood Money’.

Ø How do you decipher the equation: b = s – v x/+ a1 or a2 + v + a1 X s = b?

The meaning of the mathematical equation:

 b = s – v x/+ a1

a2 + v + a1 X s = b

Let’s analyze the both equation

b = s – v x/+ a1

b (baby)
S   (Sarah),
V (Veronica),
 a1 (Adrian),

Here, we can say that Baby in the novel was whose baby. That is the question raised here. Here we find that Sarah has not good relation with her daughter Veronica and the symbol of Veronica and Adrian is not clear there may be multiplication and addition. So it is not clear in the novel. So this acquisition is not clear in the novel.

a2 + v + a1 X s = b?

a2 (Anthony Webster),
V (Veronica),
a1 (Adrian),
S (Sarah),
b (Baby)
In the novel it is clear that tony has good relation with Veronica. Here it also can be interpreted that Adrian also has fruitful relation with veronica. So the relation of both of them was good with Veronica. The last shows that the Adrian has passionate relation with Sarah. So the symbol of multiplication shows that Baby was the formation of relationship of Sarah and Adrian. So, that was the very relevant to the novel and the story.

Blog on The Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci Code is the novel written by Dan Brown and this is the detective novel and novel written around the investigation of the family of Jesus. The Da Vinci Code is divided into 105 chapters with a Prologue and an Epilogue. The structure of the book is such that, just about every time there is a scene change or the point of view changes, a new chapter begins. The Da Vinci Code is written as a classic thriller in which, throughout the book, good and evil take turns having the upper hand. However, by the end of the book, the age-old truth is proven again, that good triumphs over evil. In this book, evil was more accurately described as greed.

1)   Brown states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, though he is on a 'constant spiritual journey' himself, and says that his book The Da Vinci Code is simply "an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate" and suggests that the book may be used "as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith."

A Hope with connection with religion. Identifying what is knowledge. And identifying & acknowledge the relationship of the “Knower” and the “Known”, and last What is the procedure of “knowing”? in the novel doubting the Christian  religion. The character like Silas and Bezu Fache is like all mirror image and movie is not atheist. Believer of divine is present here. He don’t neglect god, but at the end even protagonist looks more religious . Phobia is no more because touching the hands of sophie, this presented magical Blood power such type intuited of power of Blood and  Science and religion both are conflicts and never divinity of God.

2) “Although it is obvious that much of what Brown presented in his novel as absolutely true and accurate is neither of those, some of that material is of course essential to the intrigue, and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has retained the novel's core, the Grail-related material: the sacred feminine, Mary Magdalene's marriage, the Priory of Sion, certain aspects of Leonardo's art, and so on[1].” How far do you agree with this observation of Norris J. Lacy?

“History is always written by the winners. When two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated, and the winner writes the history books-books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe. As Napoleon once said, 'What is history, but a fable agreed upon?”

It’s historically way of  looking, in the novel power character of sketch of portray. The narrative of the novel is hanging and suspense and hanging the audience with this episode in movie like Murder’s mystery, Silas Murders and this all are connected each other.  And other country study of religion and critically study. it is just  a fable, verity of ground film is deconstructed, history is constrstucted whatever has writing  form we can see.

 3) You have studied ‘Genesis’ (The Bible), ‘The Paradise Lost’ (John Milton) and ‘The Da Vinci Code’ (Dan Brown). Which of the narrative/s seem/s to be truthful? Whose narrative is convincing to the contemporary young mind?

Yes we all are  studied ‘Genesis’ (The Bible), ‘The ParadiseLost’ (John Milton) and ‘The Da Vinci Code’ (Dan Brown).  But first fall here I will say that how narration, how say story but most important part that is “ How” is told is more important. In this all are presented the history of Christianity. Here we can talk the book of Johan Milton’s Paradise Lost long narrative, establish the role of man and woman, Raphel’s  character told that intellectual .   In The Bible talk about the roll of division of male and female, What’s the roll of Adam and Eve no nagotiation of character of Bible. In Bible Underprevillege female and previllage male presented. Ex. like Death and Suffering for illness because of woman, hatred the humanity. And the last We can discuss on ‘The Da Vinci Code’ (Dan Brown) uses point of view brilliantly in The Da Vinci Code to increase suspense and keep the reader guessing what will happen next. Brown increases suspense by using third person point of view that is for the most part, not omniscient. So, the reader sees and knows only what the characters in that particular scene are experiencing and thinking. For example, the identity of the Teacher is hinted at by the author but not revealed until Robert and Sophie discover his true identity. Also, regarding the reasons for Sauniere's murder, the reader learns along with the main characters rather than knowing in the beginning and then just observing the characters finding their way.

Blog on Harry Potter

Children’s Literature and Harry Potter

In children literature we can found the repetition of words, phrases, situations and patterns. In the novel the magic and magic tricks are repeat.

Simple and straightforward complex in the novel writer created ‘New World’, narrative is highly done.

In the novel optimistic, hope, full of action, fantasy and fanciful idea, think wishful thinking ,tone of  joy and innocence, unquestionably reliable friends.  The characters are children. Good wins over evil. So it is children’s literature.

At the same time it would have only children’s literature then it might novel have depths, which it has actually. It is open for interpretation on many other grounds, so it is not only children literature.

The discourse of Power and Politics in Harry Potter

Discourse is to designate the forms of representation on codes, conventions and habits of language that produces specific fields of culturally and historically located meanings.

Harry Potter novels talks about the discourse of the origin and distribution of power through an effective use of the strategies of visibility. These narratives divide characters into two categories of power relation: the one who sees and the one who is seen.
When we talk on politics in Harry potter included this topic like Discipline & Punishment, prohibition, Single gaze, ideal person, surveillance, education, power & knowledge. Power construe the knowledge.

But where are the politics? At the most explicit levels Rowling provides the readers with a outline of a political system: the ministry of magic. Harry Potter presents at multiple levels the different manifestations of power. There is the struggle between power and ethics showed through the war between the death eaters and the wizarding community. The specific function of a school means that essentially a power structure. Starting from the headmaster, professors, prefects, students and finally servants- Hogwarts presents a hierarchical power structure.

When asked about the politics and message in Harry Potter, Rowling explained: “I wanted Harry to leave our world and find exactly the same problems in the wizarding world. Rowling wants to say that politics has become apart of modern life, but it is the root of all problems, not solutions.

Voldemort’s thirst for power takes him on a torturing and murdering spree. The prime example of this is Voldemort, whose unquenchable thirst for power takes him on a torturing and murdering spree. The moral of the story is, power isn't all it's cracked up to be – and we should all hope that we would have the same strength of character that Harry does when he's offered ultimate power, and turns it down.

The theme of Love and Death

In the novel Love and Death are the themes that go simultaneously. All the books of Rowling have these common theme “Selfless Love gets triumph” as is said ‘Truth always wins’.  We can talk on this theme is traditionally and mythically. Last line of book…

“The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.”

Love is a significant theme in all the books of Harry Potter series. Harry loved all, and was loved by all. This book delineates the concept of strongly tied of love among the character.

Love plays vital role in Voldemort's downfall than he or Harry realize.“Voldemort also unwittingly ensures that Harry is tied to life while Voldemort lives by taking some of his blood in the hope that he will be able to gain some of the protection that lingers in Harry as a result of Lily sacrifice.

“You should have died for them! As we would have done for you”.

Death has played a central role in each book, and is at the heart of  the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort. Both Horcrux, which form the main thrust of the entire series, and the Deathly Hallows which are a major part of the story of the seventh book, are shown to be means of avoiding or mastering death. Harry’s attitude toward death is usually shown as a balance between recklessness and respect. Many times, Harry’s actions have led to his being in a dangerous situation, yet he has faced death bravely.

gains courage to face Voldemort and his own death

‘'Do not pity the dead Harry, pity the living.”
-- Dumbledore

Thus, Love and death are the prominent in novel. It is the mother’s love which protects harry at the same time is death prominent here.

The Namesake byJhumpa Lahiri

“That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”

― Jhumpa Lahiri, The Namesake

The story begins as Ashoke and Ashima leave Calcutta, India and settle inCentral Square, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Through a series of errors, their son's nickname, Gogol, becomes his official birth name, an event that will shape many aspects of his life in years to come.

The Hairy Ape by Eugene O'neill

The central character of Eugene O'Neill's The Hairy Ape is Yank, a fireman (someone who stokes the coal furnace of transatlantic ships). He is brutish and opinionated. Yank is leader of the firemen and the play opens with him hanging out with his coworkers in the forecastle of the ship. Though he is able to command their attention easily, they don't hesitate to make fun of how he speaks. Yank mocks a fellow fireman when the fireman stands up to make a speech about how they are in a hell created by the upper class.

He leaves the ship and wanders into Manhattan, only to find he does not belong anywhere—neither with the socialites on Fifth Avenue, nor with the labor organizers on the waterfront. Finally he is reduced to seeking a kindred being with the gorilla in the zoo and dies in the animal's embrace.

Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye"

Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye"

Toni Morrison was born Chloe Anthony Wofford on February 18, 1931. Her birthplace was Lorain, Ohio, which also serves as the setting for The Bluest Eye.

Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye" is an inquiry into the reasons why beauty gets wasted in this country. The beauty in this case is black; the wasting is done by a cultural engine that seems to have been designed specifically to murder possibilities; the "bluest eye" refers to the blue eyes of the blond American myth, by which standard the black-skinned and brown-eyed always measure up as inadequate.

The Bluest Eye is a harsh warning about the old consciousness of black folks' attempts to emulate the slave master. Pecola's request is not for more money or a better house or even for more sensible parents; her request is for blue eyes — something that, even if she had been able to acquire them, would not have abated the harshness of her abject reality.

Ghashiram Kotwal by Vijay Dhondopant Tendulkar

Ghashiram Kotwal by Vijay Dhondopant Tendulkar

Vijay Dhondopant Tendulkar was born on January 6, 1928 in a Bhalavalikar Saraswat brahmin family in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Vijay Tendulkar was a leading Indian playwright, movie and television writer, literary essayist, political journalist, and social commentator primarily in Marāthi.

Ghashiram Kotwal is a landmark in the history of Indian Drama in English Translation. It is a work in which there is a fine blending of both theme and style, thoughts and language. In this play, the playwright has taken the help of Indian history to expose the reality of the contemporary time. It deals with power politics, ambition, sexual hunger and revenge. It exposes the latent savagery of human being e.g., treachery, violence, sexuality and power-politics between Nana Phadnavis and Ghashiram Kotwal- the former is hungry for sex and the latter, for power. Ghashiram progresses from a common man to more than a beast in order to grab the power of state. Through these two characters, Tendulkar has shown the moral degradation, social degeneration and spiritual regression. The present book is specially meant for students who want to be fully familiar with the various aspects of the play.

Introduction to Education and Technology

1) Today's world is fully depends on the Technology .each and every fields we may see there is requirements of Technology. It affects how we shop, connect, play, and most importantly learn. Technology is a magical key that can open up a door previously locked tight. Technology helps the teachers prepare students for the real world environment. Technology in the classroom the teacher becomes the encourager and adviser. New technologies for education like portable laptops and internet allow students to learn and participate while out of the classroom. The White Tiger

How far do you agree with the India represented in the novel The White Tiger?

In the novel Arvind Adiga  represents real India and also presented is salve mentality of Indian peoples. And also talk about the certain  cash, Satire on Education System, great Socialist, Marriage, and Lesson breaking coals and also talk about the Bronze statue of Gandhi leading the people from darkness to light.  Pollution, prostitution, unemployment, poverty, dirty politics , corruption, changing morality etc presented here.

In this story Balram talks about the darkness of India by saying that India is two countries in one
India of Light
India of Darkness

Do you believe that Balram's story is the archetype of all stories of 'rags to riches'?

In this we can give the example of movie Slumdog Millionaire in this we can find this type of similarities. In India all young generation dream of every one to get success.

Example of prime minister of India

  • • "Any boy in any village can grow up to become the prime minister of India. That is his message to little children all over this land. . . Even a boy working and self-educating at tea-stall, breaking coals and wiping tables . .

• Working in a tea shop. Smashing coals. Wiping tables. Bad news for me, you say? To break the law of his land—to turn bad news into good news—is the entrepreneur's prerogative.”

3. "Language bears within itself the necessity of its own critique,
deconstructive criticism aims to show that any text inevitably undermines
its own claims to have a determinate meaning, and licences the reader to
produce his own meanings out of it by an activity of semantic 'freeplay'
(Derrida, 1978, in Lodge, 1988, p. 108). Is it possible to do deconstructive
reading of The White Tiger? How?

“ Any of several theories of literary criticism, as deconstruction or reader response that use post structuralist  methods but argues against the results of structuralism and hold that there is no one true reading of text”

One post struturalist said that language doesn’t but just reflect or record of world. When we go to deep into foundation of that thing we can deconstruct, subvert, undermine, blast it.

Yes, it is possible to possible to deconstructive reading of The White Tiger. help of some words like, in this book author himself uses this word like, “This book is Auto-Biography of half-baked Indians”. So how can we rely on the narrator who himself is half baked. It deconstructs the entire narrative.

Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

Hardy is primarily a storyteller and should be viewed more as a chronicler of moods and deeds than as a philosopher. Yet a novel such as Far from the Madding Crowd, which raises many questions about society, religion, morals, and the contrast between a good life and its rewards, is bound to make the reader curious about the author who brings them up.

The story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene  who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak  a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood , a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba's choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love - as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

Smart and educated, Miss Everdene enchants one man after the other, sheep farmer, well-to-do bachelor, and a broken-hearted young sergeant. She denies her feelings, rejects the safety a marriage would bring and maintains independence in order to keep managing the farm she has saved from ruin. But she is never alone. Hardy lets us know the politics of being a woman in 1870 England through his characters' actions, opinions and privileges. Life, it seems, is never easy, but once in a while it is fun.

In Victorian England, the independent and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak, a sheep farmer; Frank Troy, a reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood, a prosperous and mature bachelor.

Blog on movie review on 'Hamlet'

After watching the movie ‘Hamlet’, which is directed by Kenneth Branagh. I really enjoyed the movie my view on the movie Hamlet given below.

Yes, I want to say that this movie is faithful to the original play of Shakespeare. In original play same dialogues and same characters are same. And soliloquies in the play Hamlet is really enjoy, so at last we can say that it is faithful to the original play.

Yes, after watching movie my thinking about the play and characters as well as situations of Hamlet is totally changed. In the play we do not see the madness of Hamlet but in a movie we can see very well. And the character of Ophelia is tragic one.

When we watch movie we feel aesthetic delight. When in grave diggers scene conversation of two person. And second while Hamlet in madness he makes fun with Polonius. So it creates funny atmosphere in the movie.

While reading a play I can’t feel catharsis much but after watching movie I observe catharsis. Like in a movie Ophelia cries on death of her father and she behaves like mad at that time I feel catharsis.

Yes movie screening helps us in a better way to understand the play. Because in the play some scenes are there that we have no idea to better understanding . In the movie we may find too much madness in Ophelia’s character .and main thing that we observed in the movie that how hamlet procrastinates to take revenge.

I will cherish lifetime the ending scene of the play Hamlet which was well directed by Kenneth Branagh because it touched to my heart and its also heart melting scene so I like to remember the ending scene of the movie.

If I would be a director of the movie then I would like to make change in the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern who are deliberately marginalized by the Dramatist Shakespeare but if I would be a director then I like to give more space to both of these characters as they have not given enough space and another change I would like to do that is in the character of Ophelia so she should have given more role to play in the movie.

At the beginning of the movie there is a scene of statue, which symbolizes here a gloomy atmosphere and the statue also gives reminder to Prince Hamlet that He should take revenge therefore it is symbolized of horror which is going to happen.

In the play with the help of movie feministic approach can be found which is more applicable so far as my opinion is concerned because in the play females have not given more space as Hamlet hence I think that this approach will be more applicable to the pay.

Before watching the play I think that approach of Cultural studies of Hamlet is appealing and more effective one behind one reason and that is Cultural study can be done of this play because this play occupies many things which are related or has a direct relation with culture. so I like to put this approach here but it was my opinion when I have not watched the movie.
